
:STAFF - TRAINING, PARADE AND DRILL:

- The Home Guards are given basic
training in drill with and without arms,
weapon training, firing range discipline, crowd
control-field craft patrolling,
map reading and civil defense training including fire fighting,
rescue, first aid, flood relief etc.
- A drill manual has been compiled
and issued by the commandant general for the use of
the departments of home guards, civil defense and fire
force. The instructions therein are to be carried out in all
parades and drills. Detailed
instructions have been given regarding ceremonial
parades of the drill manual.
- Subjects for basic training to
home Guards include P.T., drill without arms and drill with arms. The number of periods allotted for
these subjects have been indicated with training syllabi and the
instructions are contained in the drill manual.
- The training for urban and
rural home guards is phased into 4 parts
namely. Basic training, refresher training, advanced
training outside
- Their normal working hours with the training extending over a
fairly long period generally at part-time parades.
- In the case of rural home
guards, the training is imparted in campus at
district training centers during
slack agricultural seasons. In certain thinly
populated areas specially in hilly regions if
necessary, a
few
mobile training may be organized.

| :URBAN HOME GUARDS: |
-
Basic training:-A
program of 170 periods of 45 minutes each is to be covered at parades of one and a half hours duration.
-
Camp training:- I) 10 days for first year Home Guards
II) 8 days for second year Home Guards.
- Refresher training:-This is a continuous process for
urban home guards & at least one parade of two and half hour’s duration every week is to be
attended by every Urban Home Guard.
- Advanced training:-One third of the total strength is given advanced training of 100 periods through part-time parades.
- Leadership training:- The training of
section and platoon leaders for 21 days and of company
commanders for 30 days is conducted at the Regional Training
centers Central Training Institute for home guards.

| :RURAL HOME GUARDS: |
- Basic Training:- Rural Home
Guards are called up for completing basic
training of 300 periods of 45 minutes each
lasting for 7 weeks in Regional Training centers.
- Refresher
training: Annual refresher training of 25 days
is given to Rural Home guards in Regional
Training centers in such a manner that the total
of 25 days is broken into suitable number of
lesser days at any one time. Advanced trainings:
one Platoon strength of about 40 Home Guards in
each Community Development Block are eligible
for this training. This training lasts for 45
days in regional Training centers in border
States and for 30 days in non-border States.
- Leadership training:-
Section
and Platoon Leaders are trained for 21 days
duration at the Regional Training Centers.
Company Commanders courses of 30 days duration
are run the Central training Institute in the
States Union Territories.
